Trips for Kids Metro New York, part of NYC 10th Annual Adventure Day in Central Park
WOW WHAT A DAY! Trips for Kids Metro New York got over 265 bikers out at the Parks Departments Adventure Day! What a great space the Parks Department gave us this year to set up our obstacle course. Each rider really got a flavor of mountain biking! I want to send a bigTHAK YOU to the NYC Park volunteers who helped with registration, helmet fitting, and bike return- Kelly, Joanna, Jay and Mira - This allowed the team to give the riders and safer and longer ride. You are welcome at any of our rides and events!!! Thanks to Dawson and Campbell for getting and setting up the bikes, Thanks to Chris and Daniel of NYCMTB, Seth of the NYCranks and of course Eugene for all the hard work -helping rider, rider after rider, all 265 +, understand the attack position, where to look while approaching obstacles and all the overall encouragement and support you gave to make sure every rider had a great experience!!!!! It was quite a day!!!!

Trips for Kids' North Woods Family Trail Ride Day - Saturday May 24th

North Woods Family Trail Ride Day
(Queens, NY) Trips
for Kids Metro New York (TFK) is hosting a Northwoods Family Trail Ride Day
in Cunningham Park’s North Woods Mountain Biking Trail on Saturday, May 24th. TFK, Peak Mountain Bikes
and Bicycle Planet will supply bikes to offer the community a new experience
and adventure for the family.
The second
annual Northwoods Family Trail Ride Day is designed to encourage family outings
and mountain biking in New York City. “We want to share our sport
with the Queens community. There is an amazing park in their back yard,
and we want them to know Trips for Kids is here to help them explore it.”
Said AndrĂ©e Sanders, Executive Director of TFK. “Kids from all over the
New York City area have a unique opportunity to ride with experienced riders
and learn from the best. "
TFK volunteers
and the NYCranks High School mountain bike race team will lead rides for all
skill levels. “It is great because we get to reach out to the kids from
the neighborhood and give them a ride to remember,” said Campbell Sorenson,
Ride Leader - age 14. “I love mountain biking and love getting kids on the
trail.”
Queens
resident, Kitty Azhar, said, ”I have lived in the Cunningham Park area my whole
life and I have never experienced the park the way I did with Trips for Kids.
My family and I are novice bikers and look forward to the next opportunity to
get my boys out there, practically in my backyard, teaching them to ride the
awesome trails in our park. I am spreading the word to students from our local
schools as well as parents about this rich resource we have in our community,
thanks Trips for Kids.”
All
participants will be able to borrow bikes on site at no cost. Additional
organizations partnering with TFK include: CLIMB (Concerned Long Island
Mountain Bikers), a non-profit advocacy organization dedicated to the growth
and safe enjoyment of mountain bicycling and the organization responsible for
maintaining the trail in Cunningham Park; Peak Mountain Bike Pro Shop, the
local bicycle shop rated Best Bike Shop by MTBR, that specializes in mountain
bikes;
City Bike
Coach, a fun cycling riding school and coaching service for all ages which also
offers free weekend rides for all levels and ages; Bicycle Planet, the second largest
bicycle store on Long Island.

Trips for Kids Family Trail Ride Saturday May 24th
Come ride with us! Discover a new Family Fun Activity - Trail Riding in New York City - All skill levels welcome to ride the seven miles of beginner and advanced singletrack found in Cunningham Park, Fresh Meadows Queens!
We will provide --
Bikes: TFK will bring its fleet of bikes supporting riders 4'6" and taller. PEAK Bikes and Bicycle Planet will bring their name brand rental fleet and demonstration test bikes - giving us over 60 bikes to select from.
Kids rides: You and the kids can bring your own bike, or pre-register to ensure a complimentary bike is available. An instructor will review mountain biking techniques, as well as topics such as healthy living through cycling, geography, and what we can do to help preserve the environment. Adults must be present during the kids ride, but are not required to participate.
Beginner clinics: Andree Sanders, Executive Director of Trips for Kids, will teach the beginner clinic which will introduce techniques for handling, braking and rolling with power and control.
Learn to Ride clinics: Come learn to ride a bicycle with City Bike Coach. There will be two start times for these 30-minute instructional lessons. Each lesson includes practice time afterward.
Space is very limited! First come first served.
Class Requirements-
* A bicycle in good working conditions: tires properly infleted,working brakes and a well oiled chain * A properly fitted helmet * Closed toed, rubber shoes * Long sleeve shirt and/or jacket * Long pants or jeans *Water and snacks * Signed waiver * Parents and care giver must stay on site
